Ever since I tried my first "consumer" version of a laser etcher, I have had a vision that there is a whole world of new and exciting things that can be done in woodworking with a machine of this type while still relying on traditional methods and craftsmanship. I envisioned something easy to use, that didn't need to be assembled from parts and that was powerful and speedy enough to actually woodworking elements.
Well that day has finally arrived for me. My impatience in trying to learn "new electronics technology" has been a hinderance. I admire all those who have gone before me and taken the time to learn the older cumbersome systems and helped to modernize to where we are now and where we can get to in the future.

I'm not sure if a Stool is actually a "Tool" but for this exercise I am making it so. For a few years now I have been using an old Bar Stool in my workshop beside my laptop computer. I use the stool enough for zoom meeting and just Internet browsing for information that it has become a mainstay in my workshop.
One of the features of this old stool is that it has some lower rungs that I sometimes try to stand on to reach things high up in my shop, like changing light bulbs or other audio wires or adjustments but never put full weight on the rungs as I don't trust them. Safely using a table saw is one of the cornerstones of woodworking, but for some who want to be woodworkers, this tool can be super scary to use, but they are not the only people who can be intimidated by these loud, dusty and powerful machines and that is why we can embrace options like Auto Cut, the a table saw wood feeder mechanism.
But ... there is much more to this newly developed machine in terms of uses, it may not fit everyone's needs but it will be a welcome addition to many woodworking shops ...

Many years ago when they first started to emerge on the market, I made a video using a laser etcher. I liked the idea of what they could do but I was disappointed with the power, which of course limits what they can do. I have been passively watching this market as the power and capabilities of these machines has increased and it's time for me to have another closer look ...
When Ikier Laser first contacted me, I had already been looking at their line-up of laser machines so I had a pretty good idea what advancements they had implemented, and is was enough for me to want to learn more. What I found were powerful Laser Machines with far more advanced capabilities and Apps to drive them, and so I decided to see first hand what had changed and try one out.

I have heard SO MANY people and even knowledgeable and experienced woodworkers who say, "I am afraid to use a router, they scare me". Who doesn't love new tools?? I often think that is at least half the fun of woodworking, all the neat tools we get to use, purchase, and figure out. I guess it's the "mechanics" of woodworking, and for me, even re-purchasing newer versions of a tool I may already have can also be exciting because often, there are new tool features.

And such was the case with the "MINI" clamping squares I picked up at Lee Valley recently. I already have a larger set for furniture and cabinet making, and I love how much easier and more accurate they are to work with .. but how about something for BOX Making ...
