Homemade Drill Press Depth Stop / Depth Gauge

The drill press is one machine in my shop that I cannot do without. I am always amazed how many times I use this machine in a day, but the one thing the bulk of drill presses lack is any kind of a detailed depth gauge ... if anything at all. Like most drill presses, mine has a depth stop which is great for repeatable use in the same wood at the same depth, but when I want one or 2 accurate holes, it is very difficult to do anything quickly.

I love watching other peoples' videos to see what they are creating and how they go about making things and that's one the things I love about woodworking, is that there are often different ways of achieving the same end result. Generally, there is no right way or wrong way doing some, just different techniques often using different tools.

Some time ago, I watch a Very Good video made by Tamar of 3X3 Custom where she showed a variety of ways of making dowels, you can see it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tyygJh8c8s&feature=youtu.be
In that video, Tamar made a dowel using a router table, and it reminded me of a woodworking technique I try to remember to use, which is starting BIG and working small, and that is, start with a larger piece of wood, because it's easier and safer to hold on to, then work at making it smaller as needed.

I have had a number of people asking me about CNC and Laser machines and their use in woodworking. I generally have answered these email individually and they are often long and probably as tedious to read as they are to write, so in this episode, with the help of my long-time friend Paul, we are going to provide an overview of both of these machines to give everyone a better idea what they can do and how they work.
You should also know that both these machines are Paul's and that he currently has many videos on his channel you can watch, including some Beginner videos on the use and set up of both these machines, his YouTube Channel is MakeTech Create.
You check out his Wood Art Website Here.

Workshop lighting is the one thing that affects everything you do in your workshop, including accuracy of your builds, safety and your personal comfort which also contributes to how long you can work without suffering eye strain and reduced effectiveness.
There are many aspects to lighting and this article is directed at what things to look for in lighting in order to have a more comfortable and productive workshop.

I am only going to address three things that are important to look at in workshop lighting, but there are also other aspects I will touch upon like the longevity of LED lights and the cost of operating them but because electricity rates vary from region to region I will let individuals figure out their own savings.
Shop Made Disc Sander / Bench Top DIY Build

When I spotted the 2 electric motors at the garage sale, I passed over them at first. They were covered in dust, paint splatters and cobwebs and I doubted either worked. After a few minutes with no other finds, I was about to leave and asked the lady if the motors worked ... she did not know. I asked if I could plug them in, explaining that they might trip the electrical circuit, whereupon she said no, take them "as is" and gave me a lower price ... I told her that her price was too low, gave her more money and left with the 2 unknown condition motors ... neither of which I expected to work.

When I got them home and plugged them in, to my delight, they both worked. I was amazed. They were both only one-third horsepower, which I thought would be a bit low for making a disc sander, but if I made the disc size smaller, it might work ... so I went ahead with the plan.
