Sometimes the simplest jigs can be the most used and the handiest, and this angle jig for the miter saw is one of those. I have had a jig like this as far back as my chop saw but for some reason it seems to have disappeared, so time to make a new one ... and this time I will label it so I don't take it for some other jig or worse, take it apart for some parts in some other thing I am creating.

The best wood to use for this jig and many jigs are plywood because it's stable and strong, for this jig I used 1/4" plywood for the base which was 12 inches square ...
Tips to Straighten Boards and Squaring Lumber

One of the most important things we ever do as woodworkers is truing lumber because it is the foundation of what we will be working with. If the boards are not straight and true the whole project will be a struggle to put together and likely will be ill-fitting as well. It is very frustrating to try and build a quality piece of furniture or other woodworking projects, and have it come together perfectly ... when the wood we are working with is not true.

Of course, the first step in truing lumber is selecting the wood you will be using and that wood should be the best wood you can find for the price you are willing to invest. It should be a straight grained and as dry as you can find and are willing to invest in. If you need to let it dry a bit longer you can often find lumber that is somewhat lower priced.

I also tend to look more for items that, even if they are a good value, are made of materials that are more readily reusable, like artificial materials like plastics and nylons, or even wooded items that can be recycled back into the environment safely. So here is a short list of some of the items I use ...

One of the challenges of working in a small workshop is keeping enough room to move and build things without having machinery taking up the bulk of the room. Having machines on wheels is one way of accomplishing this, but there are other ways of economizing on space, which is what I am doing with these collapsible arms on my sliding miter stand.

Several months ago when I was looking for locking steel arms that were also collapsible when I was building my outfeed table for the table saw, I found some very strong arms that I liked, that also came in 2 sizes. At the time of buying them, I realized that not only would this design work for my table saw outfeed table, but also for my sliding miter stand.
