While we were testing routers and router tables, we asked if
we could test out the Bosch Work mat, with is primarily sold as an accessory
for router work.
Never having had the opportunity to test one of these mats before we were game for anything. To be honest, we did not have high hopes that these things were much use, so if it did anything we would be happy. We did have a bit of a concern that, we might damage this work mat if we actually did router work right on top of it, we briefly thought of putting a work board on top the mat, then working on that, but then realized the point was the mat and not another working board.
The wood sits flat and doesn’t move around until you actually pick it up and move it or turn it over. We were having a gay ole time sanding flat pieces, legs, boxes all sorts of different items, all very nicely held in place when we realized the purpose of our test was to get the mat dusty … which it was!

After the mat was sufficiently dusty we shook it off and slightly dusted off the bench top we were using it on and prepared to test some routing. We got out a few pieces of test wood and mounted a large round-over bit in a portable router. To our delight, the wood was held fast by the Bosh Work Mat, even though the mat had become quite dusty, it was still grabbing very nicely, maybe not quite a good as right out of the package, but far better than we had envisioned.
Our conclusion, we gave this product a BIG thumbs up, it worked great for hold wood while routing, but we discovered that using it as a sanding base was truly the best thing we had done in years.
